After months of cool, rainy weather, summer arrived in Southside and temperatures this week climbed to nearly 100 degrees. The relatively cool temperatures this year have prevented horses and their owners from fully acclimating to these more typical summer temperatures. Horse owners should make sure that their horses have shelter, abundant fresh water, and for senior horses and those with anhydrosis, accessibility to fans. Many horses really enjoy a good hosing off, and this is an excellent way to keep them cool.
